“For the Love of Irises” Art Quilt

Quilting has been amazing therapy throughout 2020. Despite all the unknowns, craziness, lack of any art shows, and all the other modified plans that have occurred for all of us, one thing has remained consistent. The sewing room has been kept busy. Initially, it was all about taking care of my own projects that had been ignored for too long. Then, I discovered this was a great opportunity to build up my inventory and to create some smaller quilts, which translates to lower prices.

One of my latest projects was creating a new commission utilizing techniques and fabric ideas from previously made quilts. I have always made a promise to myself that I would never create the same quilt twice. However, nothing wrong with taking ideas from multiple quilts and creating new beauty. I am so happy! with how “For the Love of Irises” came out. This was a commission that was originally inspired by “Ruth’s Garden”, which was created in 2016. The only criteria I was given by the customer was “blue iris and lots of detail.” Pulling ideas from “Butterflies are Free” and “Celebration of Australian Icons”, in addition to creating a much more detailed iris template, I was able to create a gorgeous quilt and the iris totally pop!

Even the simplest commission requests can turn into a gorgeous quilt that you will love. Creating a design just for you is just the beginning of a wonderful process!
